Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at the University of Illinois.
John Philip Sousa served as a staunch advocate for the inclusion of music instruction and performance ensembles in every student's course of study. A special fundraising concert for the Urbana, Central, and Centennial high school bands will take place as part of “Under American Skies: Celebrating Our Musical Community on Granny’s Porch,” at 7:30 p.m. on December 14 at the Virginia Theatre. The three high school wind ensembles will play together for the first time, closing out the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music’s 10th annual American Music Month Celebration.
Tickets for "Under American Skies: Celebrating Our Musical Community on Granny's Porch" are $5 for adults and children, and $20 for families of 6 through the Virginia Theatre (www.thevirginia.org or 217-
356-9053). All proceeds from ticket sales will be shared equally between the three band programs.
