Champaign County's 4th Annual Active Aging Week

CHAMPAIGN, Ill - Matt and Heather talk to Holly Jordan and Karen Blatzer from Clark-Lindsey about Active Aging Week. Active Aging week is being celebrated during the last week of September. The purpose is to celebrate aging and active lifestyles through fun-filled, engaging community events aimed toward people 55 and better.

Sunday, September 24th         

“Senior Style Show” with the Champaign Park District

4:00pm-6:00pm - Douglass Community Center Gymnasium

See the seniors of Douglass Annex strut their stuff down the runway, a guaranteed good time! This is an event you do not want to miss. Please come “Dressed to Impress” to fit this stylish occasion. Tickets are required for entry and can be purchased for $5 at Douglass Annex or Douglass Community Center. Tickets will be on sale until Friday, September 22nd. No tickets will be sold on the day of the event. The event will feature a buffet, live DJ and entertainment, modeling stage and senior models. Take the “Balance Challenge” Fall Prevention Assessment with the University of Illinois Falls Prevention Clinic.

Participate in a Matter of Balance “Class Zero” from 10:00am-10:30am or 2:00-2:30pm to see if the class is a good fit for your needs.

Or, join the “Fear of Falling” class from 11:30am-12:45pm (including lunch) or 12:15pm-1:30pm (including lunch).

Free blood pressure checks, hearing screenings and eye glass cleanings/fittings will be available. Falls risk consultations will take place every 20 minutes throughout the day. Play “i-spy” in the Falls Hazards room for a chance to win prizes, including a Panera gift card, a free assessment certificate from the Falls Clinic, or a Harry and David’s box. RSVP for any of the

“CarFit” with Parkland and AAA Chicago

CarFit offers you the opportunity to check how well your personal vehicle “fits” you, as

trained technicians perform a 12-point inspection with you and your vehicle. The CarFit

program provides information and materials on resources that could enhance your safety as a driver, and/or increase your mobility in the community. Call 217-239-5201 to make your appointment. After your assessment, come inside the YMCA to experience a “Connections Cafe,” featuring free blood pressure checks, coffee & tea, adult coloring, card games and more.
