Background of Danny's Fund and Pediatric Cancer Awareness Club
Danny's Fund (www.dannysfund.org) is a local charitable organization (and registered 501(c)(3)) created in memory of Danny Nardi, a child in our community who fought a very brave battle against Neuroblastoma. Danny's Fund's goal is to raise awareness and funds to help the fight against pediatric cancer. Pediatric cancer is one of the most under funded medical issues, getting only 4% of the American Cancer Society's annual profits. Pediatric Cancer Awareness Club was created to help students learn more about pediatric cancer and raise awareness.
Cancer is the 4th leading cause of death among children world-wide and by far the most aggressive. The treatments for many pediatric cancers haven’t been changed in the past 20 years due to a lack of funding. These options may help the child but also have many side effects such as loss of hair, and a risk of developing secondary cancers. Additionally, for a pediatric cancer patient, the typical childhood experiences, such as friendships, and school must be put on hold to fight. We are here to support them, be their friends, and share the burden of their fight.
