College Student Loses 110lbs through YMCA Programs

CHAMPAIGN, ILL - On a frigid January morning, it is inspiring to see just how many people find the motivation to come to the Stephens Family YMCA in Champaign to join in on group fitness classes. While everyone taking part is clearly motivated to achieve their fitness goals, one woman, Kaitlyn Brown, shows that her motivation goes truly above and beyond.

"There are always the people around you who are cheering you on saying you can do this!" says Brown.

Brown, 25, is a college student who has lost an amazing 110 pounds over the past two years. Her journey began when she took a job as a lifeguard at the Stephens Family YMCA. It was then that she saw how much support existed when it came to being able to achieve her fitness goals. In addition, it provided her motivation to work out.

"That really helped me just by being here more, it took away some of the excuses of not being at the gym because I was already here." says Brown.

From 24 hour pizza to busy schedules, college is often not an ideal time to lose weight. In fact, it is a time in life when many see significant weight gain. Being able to get in shape all while maintaining her studies is something Kaitlyn says she is proud of.
