Oven of the Future

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Former University of Illinois engineering students hope the new oven they invented will encourage people to eat healthy.

Rather than cooking food with micro-waves, the Tovala Smart Oven uses steam, heat, and pressure to prepare fresh food quickly. The oven and the food line specifically designed for it offers another alternative to "TV dinners," which are often high in sodium and preservatives. The name Tovala derives from a mashup of Hebrew and Italian words connected to cooking.

The group says its mission is to "make it easier to eat better."
