Treating ADHD

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. - A new study finds children who are the youngest in their grade are more likely to be diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder than children who are the oldest.

But, researchers in Taiwan found that distinction only in preschool or elementary school-aged children, not in older kids. Doctors say the age and maturity of the child should be considered when making a diagnosis.

Criticism from parents may play a role in attention disorder symptoms in kids. It's according to new research from the American Psychological Association.

Scientists tracking hundreds of families found ADHD symptoms were persistent in children of harshly critical and over-protective parents.
