EAST PEORIA -- Students at a Central Illinois grade school are doing their part to help veterans in their town. For one Hometown Hero, it will be his first trip on an Honor Flight.

Ralph Pagan is a 90-year old World War II veteran. With the money from the students' fundraiser, Nets for Vets, he'll take that flight.

Elementary students shot hoops against basketball players from Illinois Central College. The students were trying to raise $1,200. They ended up presenting a $2,000 check to Pagan.

It will be his first trip to the Capitol. Making it extra special, his son, Dan, who fought in the Vietnam War, will go as his escort.

Robein students raised enough money to send four veterans to D.C. Pagan's Honor Flight is set for September 24.
