"Hero" teacher honored

NORMAL -- A teacher is honored for restraining a student who fired a gun in class last year. Derrick Schonauer had only been teaching for 12 days at the time.

After the student pulled out the gun and fired shots into the ceiling, Schonauer got the gun away from him, tackled him and subdued him until police arrived. He helped get all students out of the building safely.

The Illinois Education Association gave him the "Courage Award." The gunman was sentenced to juvenile detention in March.
