Police follow leads in recent shootings

CHAMPAIGN -- Police are investigating two shootings.

The most recent happened in the 1000-block of North State Street, near Eureka, on Friday, May 23, about 9:30 pm. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots then screams. A 16-year old boy was wounded with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities determined this shooting is related to another shooting which happened about 7:45 pm, in the 800-block of North State Street, on Thursday, May 22. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots and saw people in a red vehicle exchange gunfire with those in a silver vehicle. Officers found two homes and two vehicles were struck by bullets after the exchange.
