SPRINGFIELD--It's that time of year when our diets seem to go out of the window. And it's all thanks to the State Fair. WCIA-3's Kelsey Gibbs shows us some healthy tricks, while we still enjoy our fair food favorites.

"Yes, food is definitely a favorite."

It's no lie. Most of us go to the fair for the food. Everything from corn dogs, fries and anything deep fried. It's not hard for Gwen Dillow and her family to forget about their diets.

"Yes we walked all over. We go to about every ride we can get on."

And she's not alone.

"We come for the food."

Rosemary Norman has been coming to fair for years. She says it's the smell of a good corn dog keeping her coming back.

"I like the corn dogs. That's one of my favorites and the corn on the cob is another favorite."

But before you feel guilty about that diet, there are a few tips which can keep you enjoying the fair and the food.

"The size of the State Fair, it's over 300 acres. We're going to be doing a lot of walking. The average person usually burns about 65 to 100 calories per mile of walking."

Gabriel Stinson, with Memorial SportsCare, says even dancing can shed some calories.

"Nobody thinks dancing as exercise, but it's a lot of fun. Get your heart rate up. It's great. It makes your muscles burn so it's a lot of fun. It's a great means of exercise."

Even walking up and down the steps to the giant slide can help work off that fair food. Memorial SportsCare also wants to remind people to drink plenty of water and not over-indulge.
