Abuse victims win cellphone rights

ILLINOIS (WCIA) -- Domestic abuse victims are celebrating a victory at the state Capitol.

A new law allows them to get out of a cellphone plan with their abuser.

Studies show cellphones are often used to stalk or eavesdrop.

Now, victims who get an order of protection from a judge have a way out.

They'll also get to keep their cellphone number. The law goes into effect in January.
