The bishop says he will offer prayers of exorcism Wednesday while the governor is signing the bill in Chicago. The prayer service will take place between 4 - 5 pm at the Cathedral in Springfield.
Bishop Thomas Paprocki says anyone who engages in a same-sex marriage is committing a mortal sin. In the same news release, he also said Christian politicians who voted for the bill are morally complicit in the same sin.
State lawmakers passed the bill last week. Same-sex marriage supporters obviously disagree with the bishop. Governor Quinn is set to sign the bill Wednesday at UIC, in Chicago, in front of a large group of supporters.
Once he does, Illinois will be the 16th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Hawaii beat us earlier this week. Our law would not take effect until June, 2014.
