SPRINGFIELD -- A new law will help ex-offenders get jobs in Illinois. Businesses can now only do a background check after the person applying has already been found qualified for a job.

The law applies to private sector employers and job seeking agencies. State lawmakers say the law will help fight poverty and prevent violence in our communities by putting more people back to work.
