SPRINGFIELD -- Champaign Mayor Don Gerard says high-speed rail would be a boon for the city. He wants it to become a travel hub.

He says it's a perfect spot for students and professionals with the university right here. Gerard shared those ideas, and more, with other city leaders at the Capitol Tuesday. Currently, high-speed rail is in the planning stages.

The UI is doing a feasibility study. The goal is to connect Champaign to Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis.
