Adult dental care was cut in 2012 to save money. The state legislature passed a bill last year which cuts $1.6 billion, more than 10% of the total budget, from the state's Medicaid program, while some services such as chiropractic and podiatry were cut entirely.
July 1, under a new Affordable Care Act category, Illinois opened Medicaid to all income-eligible adults between 19 - 64. The new plan covers restorative work such as fillings, but not preventative work like cleanings.
