Medics able to relieve suffering sooner

ILLINOIS (WCIA) -- First responders are now able to give patients drugs without a prescription.

It's an initiative to help those suffering get relief sooner. Previously, they had to get a doctor's permission, but many argued the process took too long.

Authorized technicians can now give medicines, like morphine, codeine and Valium. They're required to keep a record of drug usage.
