ILLINOIS -- A new state law could inconvenience workplaces while adding expenses for employers. But, proponents say it protects workers.

Governor Quinn signed a bill into law making workplaces which provide safety tips from experts outside their company, liable in workman's comp cases. That would be a fire department bringing in an outsider to offer training.

Opponents say the change lifts protections which some organizations previously had. Some 75 organizations which rely on workplace training are asking the legislature to amend the law.
