SPRINGFIELD -- State leaders say changes to healthcare laws could have a big impact on emergency services, especially in rural areas. In the past, less-populated areas had limited access to first responders.

The new law could help ease that. If people go to the doctor more often, they can catch health problems earlier, meaning fewer people will have to call for emergency help.

One downside for residents in rural areas though, healthcare premiums cost more per month than it does if the same person lived in a bigger city.
