ILLINOIS -- There are 65,000 reported cases of hepatitis C in the state, so lawmakers, community advocates and health experts were at the Statehouse Wednesday, educating people about the dangerous disease.

Hepatitis C has infected more than three million people in the U.S. Older Americans are most at risk of getting it.

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month. The CDC recommends a one-time screening for all baby boomers born between 1945 - 1965.
