SPRINGFIELD -- Area high school students paid a visit to the State Capitol Wednesday. Students from University High School, in Normal, were on a tour with their State Senator Jason Barickman (R).
The class got a chance to ask the lawmaker questions about state government and to chat with Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford. The students also talked with Senate President John Cullerton (D) and took a tour of the treasury vault where unclaimed property is kept.
SPRINGFIELD -- There was a much younger group of reporters covering the Capitol Tuesday. 4th graders from Harristown got to be reporters and ask the governor some tough questions.
It gave students their first taste of news and politics. Some hope it's not their last opportunity. This is the 44th year of the program for the elementary school. Some former students have reportedly gone on to become reporters because of the experience.
