SPRINGFIELD -- An effort to fight fraud in Illinois is off to a successful start. The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) reorganized its efforts to cut wasteful spending.

In its first three months, it's already stopped more than $1 million in unearned benefits. The agency found more than 120 people applied for benefits in the state while already collecting benefits in another state.

IDES says the new system helps them detect fraud when it happens before the state hands out payments.
