SPRINGFIELD -- The State House passed a bill Thursday shifting employer pension costs away from the state and onto universities and community colleges. The contentious bill barely received enough votes to pass, with many republicans worried it would raise tuition and property taxes. But democrats have long contended a cost shift is necessary to solve the state's looming pension crisis.
In other pension-related action, the State Senate strongly voted down a pension reform bill passed by the State House and supported by Governor Pat Quinn. Legislative session ends Friday.
