State warns insurance companies against discrimination

ILLINOIS -- The state is taking steps to help the transgender community. It's warning insurance companies to not discriminate against them. The Affordable Care Act made it clear after some confusion. The bulletin reminds them denying coverage based on gender is illegal.

The bulletin stated they need to make certain services like hormonal therapy are covered for the transgendered. Other states, including Washington, Vermont, Colorado and Oregon issued similar bulletins.
