SPRINGFIELD -- The State Senate passed a bill Thursday to offer private investors tax incentives to redevelop abandoned state facilities. The bill would offer tax credits for some of the costs of refurbishing buildings like the recently closed Jacksonville Developmental Center.

The goal is to get the properties working again so the local communities aren't hurt. The bill passed in the Senate unanimously. It now heads to the State House for approval.
