SPRINGFIELD -- The state's unions are ready to fight proposed changes to the pension system. Union leaders are asking members to call and visit state lawmakers and urge them to vote against any pension deal which isn't supported by the unions.

Legislative leaders met Thursday to try to finalize new pension deal. It would cut yearly cost-of-living increases for retirees to one-half of inflation. The deal also would reduce employees' contributions to the system.

Leaders could call lawmakers back for a special session early next month.
