Hometown Hero continues making this a better country

SPRINGFIELD -- Friday the state honored this Hometown Hero for being a veteran who helps make this a better country. Archie Ford helps homeless veterans and those struggling with addiction get on their feet.

It earned him the title Illinois Veteran of the Month. He received a certificate in front of a crowded room. The state honored him for continuing to serve after the military.

Ford served in the Army, now he's Director of Homeless Services for the Salvation Army; making a real difference in the lives of others. The Illinois Veteran of the Month Award is presented to a veteran every month.
