SPRINGFIELD -- Many times coming back from war can be a hard transition for veterans. But, this Hometown Hero makes the experience a little easier.

Marc Patterson is a retired Army veteran who spent time in Vietnam. Patterson knows all about the good and bad sides of war. That's why he's dedicated his life after the military to help fellow veterans.

He started the Illinois Advocacy Center. It's an outreach program which helps returning heroes get their military and health benefits, find jobs, homes and learn everything they need to about coming back.

Patterson does it all by himself. He doesn't get paid for the work and says he doesn't mind. Patterson is running out of money to keep the program going. He's even thinking about selling his belonging to keep it afloat.
