2013 could be deadly year for motorcyclists

SPRINGFIELD -- Five motorcyclists were killed in Central Illinois just last month. That's more than any stretch last year.

Statewide, the number of deadly motorcycle crashes is up 13%. Ten people have died so far in 2013.

Experts say it could be because more people are riding. The numbers have jumped more than 50% in the past year.

Also, the time of year could have something to do with it. IDOT says most of these new motorcyclists aren't getting proper training, and with Illinois being one of only three states without a mandatory helmet law, it's seeing more deaths than usual.
