The 2nd Annual Rain Barrel Contest is being sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Similar to last year, IDOT is teaming up with Illinois Correctional Industries to recycle barrels previously used to store liquid hand soap for the state Department of Corrections.
Students statewide, from 3rd grade - high school, can participate and win a rain barrel for their school. Students should submit artistic designs based on Earth Day, the environment or nature. A total of three submissions can be made in each of three age divisions for each school, but must be done by a school's principal or teacher.
Artwork must be postmarked by March 30, 2012. 45 submissions will be selected with those 45 schools receiving a rain barrel. Winners will be announced the week before Earth Day (Apri 22, 2012).
