NORMAL -- Some of the state's top athletes are in Central Illinois this weekend. This year's Special Olympic Summer Games kicked off Friday at Illinois State University. More than 4,000 athletes hit the track, soccer fields and balance beams.

Many first-time participants say it's a dream come true. For others, it's much more than a competition. The Summer Games continue through the weekend.
