PESOTUM -- State police dispatchers will hold an informational picket outside district headquarters Thursday. The 911 operators who answer calls from motorists and refer incidents to troopers say there will be a threat to public safety if Governor Quinn's cuts eliminate 60-positions. His plans also include moving dispatchers from 20-local ISP headquarters to four regional call centers.
AFSCME union leaders maintain emergency response time will be slowed without telecommunicators knowledge of local areas and working relationship with local first responders. Members of the Illinois State Police, as well as local police and fire department personnel also plan to attend the picket.
