CHAMPAIGN -- The Affordable Care Act goes into effect in 2014. Thousands of people in Illinois will be able to get health insurance for the first time, but many people still have questions about the law.

Champaign County Health Care Consumers held a meeting to give them answers Thursday night. The non-profit group explained how to enroll, starting in October. It also described the available plans and who would benefit from them.

Dozens of people showed up hoping to get information. Nina Hewitt is disabled and currently has no insurance.

"It's hard to go to the doctor and get your bills and things paid. I think this is a great thing so that people can be aware of what's going on and what's available for us."

You can enroll in person or by phone. There are two locations in Champaign-Urbana:
