All state campuses could go smoke-free

ILLINOIS -- Some lawmakers hope to make state campuses smoke-free zones. The smoking ban would be similar to the UI's policy set to start in November.

Smoking wouldn't be allowed on any state-supported university or community college. The idea is to promote a healthy learning environment.

Some think the rule would be hard to enforce. If passed, the state-wide smoking ban on campuses would go into effect in summer 2014.
