Ameren introduces micro-grid

CHAMPAIGN -- An electric company is taking another green step. It's set up shop locally.

Ameren has built the first-of-its-kind micro-grid next to the UI campus. The grid takes renewable energy sources, like solar, natural gas and wind, and tries to meld it with a traditional electric grid.

Officials say it could be the next step for how people get power. The current grid can power 200 homes on its own.
