DECATUR -- A Macon County Animal Control Officer was arrested for cruelty to animals. The sheriff's office responded to 173 West Hickory Point Apartments Saturday night.
A caller reported an odor coming form an animal control truck parked there. Deputies found a dead groundhog and a dehydrated kitten inside. Officials estimate the animals were in the truck for more than two days.
Authorities say the officer was in "good standing" and they believe it was a mistake, but they have to hold officers to the same standard as the public.
