URBANA -- A state lawmaker wants to make non-profits more transparent. Representative Greg Harris (D) recently filed a bill to do just that.

The proposal would close loopholes for state-funded non-profits. They'd be required to show all the organizations' expenses including anything from signing bonuses to base salaries.

People say it's a step in the right direction. Reports show the state gave out nearly $10 billion to more than 6,000 non-profits last year.
