CHAMPAIGN -- You don't have to look very far to see new construction in town. You can add another high-rise to the list. Champaign Building Supply, on Green Street, went out of business this fall. Now, more apartments will be built on the spot.

A lot of projects are happening in town and many are near campus. As the number of students at UI continues to grow, the area is becoming very attractive to real estate developers. Eight projects are expected to be finished by fall 2016.

The old supply company sat in a residential area, so the city always anticipated a residential property going in if the company left. When they went out of business, a Chicago developer purchased it.

Champaign is growing and the community will benefit. Businesses are also reinvesting in downtown. Two restaurants are moving there and others are expanding. The city expects to see another hotel eventually make its way downtown along with corporate offices.
