Area students excel in academic competition

CHAMPAIGN -- Hundreds of students from all over the state competed for academic awards. It was an academic challenge called "Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering."

Students took tests in categories like chemistry and physics. Each took about 40-minutes.

William Samet was the only Hoopeston High student to qualify for state. He says he likes getting the chance to flex his mental muscles.

Wednesday was the third day of competition for schools with 300 - 700 students. Monticello students took home two individual awards for computer science and got second place in the team competition. Sullivan High's team came in fourth.
