CHAMPAIGN -- An area street has a new name. Part of Washington Street was dedicated as Honorary Erma Bridgewater Way.

Neighbors say she was a leader. Some refer to her as the "mother of their community." Those who knew her want to make sure she's remembered.

Bridgewater died in April at the age of 99-years old. She sang in the same choir for 75 of those years.
