DANVILLE -- Her son was murdered nearly a year and a half ago. Now, she's finally getting the answers she's been fighting for.

The 27-year-old was shot in Danville front yard. Now police say they've arrested the man who pulled the trigger.

The family is glad there was an arrest but the man who was put in cuffs was no stranger.

Like any mother...

"I always worried about him," Brenda Shaw said.

Shaw had a close relationship with her son Larry Carter. Some would say they were inseperable.

Shaw and her daughters haven't been able to let go of his memory.

"Words cannot describe the way that I feel." Sister Brittany Shaw said.

"I'm glad that they got him."

Their happiness is shadowed by shock. The man arrested for the murder is 27-year-old Edward Woodfork. He was a family friend who grew up with Carter. They say Woodfork even showed up at the crime scene.

"He came up to me and gave me a hug," Sister Laketia Carter said.

"I had no words. I couldn't do anything but scream."

Police provided enough evidence to put who they believe killed Carter behind bars. Although it'll never be enough to make this mother forget.

"I won't celebrate Mother's Day."

She finds comfort in the fact, police didn't forget either.

"It's closure now. They got him and there will be justice."

"I'll still move on and live my life, but he'll always be in my heart. Always," Shaw said.
Update: 4:13 pm
DANVILLE -- Police arrested a man for murder. This comes almost a year-and-a-half after the shooting.

Investigators say 27-year old Edward Woodfork pulled the trigger. Police never gave up on the case.

The city's public safety director says his detectives have been working on it ever since it happened. This week, they got enough evidence for a grand jury to make an indictment.

Authorities were called to the 500-block of Robinson Street, May 14, 2012. They had a report of shots fired.

When they arrived, they found 27-year old Larry Carter lying in the front yard of a home. Police say they believe Woodfork is the man who killed him.

He was arrested Thursday night. He's being held without bond. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection to this case.
