Assault Case Declared Mistrial

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A Champaign man accused of brutally attacking a neighbor last summer will be retried. The case was declared a mistrial when jurors told the judge they couldn't reach a unanimous verdict.
    22-year old Dominique Alexander-Smith was charged with home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated criminal sexual assault. The charges stemmed from an August attack on a 26-year old woman who lived in a nearby apartment complex.

Assault Trial Underway
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A woman who said she was robbed and raped took the stand today. She's testifying against 22-year old Dominique Alexander-Smith.
    His trial started Tuesday. Alexander-Smith is accused of breaking into the victim's apartment in August, assaulting her and stealing her money. He's charged with home invasion, armed robbery and criminal sexual assault.
