SPRINGFIELD -- Police are investigating a series of thefts which involve victims' credit/debit cards being used. Authorities think a professional pick-pocket ring may be at work.

Victims have wallets taken from a purse while at area restaurants. In some cases, suspects cause a distraction to take a victim's wallet. Immediately after the theft, the card is used to purchase high-end electronics or large dollar amount gift cards.

None of the suspects has been positively identified. Investigators say they are male and female, all races, typically well-dressed and appear between the ages of 30 - 50. Police do not think the suspects are from the area.

Between August 2012 and June 2013, the suspects have stolen nearly $60,000. Officials warn people to keep their wallets and purses closed and near them at all times.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
