NATIONAL -- April is National Donate Life Month. In Illinois, some colleges are doing their part to help spread the word.
Secretary of State Jesse White is teaming up with community colleges as part of the Be a Hero campaign. It helps increase the number of donors in the state. He stopped by Lincoln Land Community College, urging students and others to help save lives.
The top three schools with the most creative message and most registrations will win paid internships for students. A total of 48 schools are participating statewide.
ILLINOIS -- Young people across the state are being encouraged to become organ and tissue donors. Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is teaming up with Illinois Community Colleges.
Students will get the chance to create their own campaigns and earn community service hours. White says millions of people in Illinois have put their names on the registry, but still about 300 people die each year waiting for a match.
