GIBSON CITY -- A man hurt in a fight has died. Now the man accused of throwing the punches will face stiffer charges. The fight happened Friday in the 100-block of Sangamon Street.

The victim had been in a coma for days, ever since the beating. Monday afternoon, the coroner says he died from traumatic head injuries.

Police say Ryan Nibbe is responsible. He was stopping by the apartment complex when the victim, Tim Robertson, walked inside. Police say Robertson had been drinking and walked into the wrong building. He and Nibbe got into a fight on the stairwell.

Nibbe faces aggravated battery charges, but could now face manslaughter or even murder. This is not his first run-in with the law. He's been charged with aggravated battery and assault in the past. He's currently in jail on a $150,000 bond.
