CHAMPAIGN -- An internationally-known beer company will have a new presence on the UI campus. Students will tackle data at the Anheuser-Busch Lab. There's no beer inside, but pretty soon, there will be plenty of students plugging away on their computers.

Anheuser-Busch InBev collects a lot of information about consumers, including their use of social media and what brands they seem to like. Now interns here will be able to analyze the data so the company can put it to use.

Some of them have already started. The UI has a history of using big data for projects, so organizers say it was the perfect spot for the new program. Working here can also serve as a jumping off point for students.

Organizers say they expect interns may be able to move up and get permanent jobs within the company. Interns will be chosen from various backgrounds like statistics and computer science to engineering and business, so there will be plenty of opportunities for a lot of students to be involved.
