Benefit raises money for baby with heart disease

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- People in Danville came out Saturday to support a man who has helped so many of them throughout the years.

It's all for his three-month old granddaughter, Jordyn, who was born with congenital heart disease. The benefit at the VFW will help raise money to pay for her medical bills.

She's already had two heart surgeries, and doctors aren't sure how many more she'll need.

That's why Jordyn's grandfather Danny Cope stepped in.

His friends say he's always the first to organize an auction or a raffle to help others. So they were happy to come out for him.

"It feels wonderful to tell Danny, 'Hey, we've got your back. You're in a time of need. You've helped us veterans out. You've helped the community out for many years,'" said family friend Arthur McCulley. "It's time to step up and give back."

Right now, Jordyn's parents are trying to pay for the surgeries out of pocket because they say their insurance doesn't cover preexisting conditions. They need about $50,000 to cover the surgeries Jordyn has already had.
