Blue Ridge High School gets new water system

FARMER CITY -- A football team is having a safer practice thanks to the community. The Blue Ridge High School football field was too dry for players.

They were getting hurt during tackles. People in Farmer City helped raise $6,000, and now they have a brand new watering system. It's something coaches and players are very thankful for.

"You never want to see one of them get hurt. Knowing that they're going to be in a safer environment just makes a big difference for you as a coach the same as if it was your own kid," said Brent Cordes.

"I'm pretty excited. It feels like concrete hitting this ground. I've actually gotten a concussion on this field. It feels great to have a soft ground," said Damien Cordes.

The team hopes the field is green by the first week of practice next month.
