FARMER CITY -- Some of the best BMX riders in the state were racing for a regional qualifying series called the Gold Cup. Bike riders as young as three and as old as 56 participated in the qualifier. Some participants were from Illinois and others from around the country.

Everyone is gunning for the top spot but competition remains friendly says organizer Scott Cramer.

“The one thing you'll notice when you come into a BMX track is it's a big family, it really is, where a lot of other sports are cutthroat, BMX everyone wants to stick together as a family so it's really welcoming."

Top riders qualify for a spot in nationals, which takes place in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
