Board decides against consolidation

BEMENT -- Students will stay put. The school board was considering options to deal with a budget deficit. Earlier this year, a consultant recommended the district close the high school and only keep kindergarten through 8th grade. But, the school board voted to keep things the way they are, at least for the next two years.

BEMENT -- It was a full house Wednesday night at the school board's special meeting. The future of the high school was the topic. Teachers and parents attended to hear the various options.

The board says everything is on the table from joining another district to making a county-wide school. A consultant recommended the district close the high school and keep kindergarten through 8th grades. The board says a decision will take some time.

BEMENT -- The school is hosting a special meeting Wednesday night. In January, a consultant recommended it consolidate with Cerro Gordo High School to save money. Students in kindergarten through 8th grades would remain in Bement.

Board members will discuss options. The meeting takes place at 7 pm, in the school cafeteria.
