Bomb squad called to investigate suspicious suitcase

CHAMPAIGN -- Police from the University of Illinois and Champaign Bomb Squad were called to investigate a suspicious suitcase. A passerby noticed the suitcase on North First Street across from the police station before noon Monday.

Police closed off the area and redirected traffic. They also notified area businesses. Officials found the suitcase contained equipment used for swimming pools. The area was reopened to traffic about 1 pm.
